      Description

      Northern lights over Saana (1029m).

Few months ago on a facebook group for Finnish aurora hunters (revontulikyttääjät) I randomly met one of my friends from school days. We had not talked to each other for over 10 years, so we exchanged a few words. He still lives in the far south of Finland, but got recently into astronomy and auroras, chasing them actively there, though the auroras are a bit rare where he lives, also small and weak. So of course he wants to visit north Finland to see them properly. We booked a trip to Kilpisjärvi just a rock throw away from the borders of Sweden and Norway. The tallest fells and mountains of the country are also found there, one of them being the well-known Saana, which we both wanted to photograph with the auroras. Our first day there was clear and while the space weather was quiet, we still got to see a proper half-sky show which lasted only a few minutes. We had to wait 4 hours for that though. The next day we climbed the fell in the best possible weather.

Full moon was high in the sky.

EDIT: 3 months later I would move to this village of 100 people to live and work.
